Medical board to exhume maid’s body today for autopsy

HYDERABAD: The provincial health department on Friday formed a special medical board to exhume the body of nine-year-old Fatima Fariro, a domestic help who died in mysterious circumstances at her employer’s house in Ranipur on Aug 15, to conduct a post-mortem examination on Saturday (today).

The board, headed by medical superintendent of Peoples Medical College (PMC) Hospital, Nawabshah and comprising a forensic expert of Peoples University of Medicines and Health Sciences for Women, Nawabshah, a professor of pathology from PMC, and a senior female medico-legal officer posted in Naushahro Feroze district health office, will exhume the body in Ali Mohammad Furro graveyard near Khanwahan to “determine cause of the girl’s death as desired”.

A notification to this effect was issued by Health Services Director General Dr Irshad Memon. It said that the board’s proceedings should be forwarded to relevant court of law and the DG’s office. The board was formed in line with Aug 17 directive of civil judge and judicial magistrate of Sobhodero on an application filed by investigating officer of the girl’s murder case.

Earlier on Thursday, the Ranipur police had picked up a former SHO, a health department doctor and a dispenser (compounder) for their alleged involvement in the death of the housemaid in the haveli of a local influential, Pir Asad Shah, who is also in custody.
