Burning police vans: ATC grants two-day remand of three women

LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court on Tuesday granted two-day physical remand of three women to Sarwar Road police following their ‘positive’ identification parade report in a case of burning police vehicles in Cantonment area during the May 9 riots.

The investigating officer presented the women before the court and informed it that all the suspects had been identified by the prosecution witnesses during the parade held in the jail. He said physical remand of the suspects – MsTasnim Akhtar, Ms Sadia Naz and Ms Farkhanda – was required for investigation.

Advocate Irfan Alvi appeared on behalf of the women and opposed their physical remand. He said the police arrested the women on Aug 5 from Zaman Park. He said the women were not involved in any illegal or violent activity on May 9.

However, Judge Ejaz Ahmad Buttar allowed two-day physical remand of the suspects to the police.

Separately, the judge extended the judicial remand of the PTI’s former MNA Ms Rubina Jamil and Tiktoker Muneeb Ali Khan in the case of attack on Lahore corps commander’s house (Jinnah House). The investigating officer told the court that the challan against the suspects was in its final stage, seeing more time for its submission. The judge allowed the request and extended the judicial remand of the suspects for 14 more days.
