Offices of two ‘illegal’ housing societies sealed in Kohat
KOHAT: The assistant commissioner, Usman Ashraf, and tehsil municipal officer Aming Gul during a crackdown sealed the offices of two alleged illegal housing societies here on Thursday.
Earlier, about a dozen such societies had been sealed in Gumbat. They were asked to get approval of maps and a ‘no objection certificate’ from tehsil municipal administration.
On Thursday, a team headed by assistant commissioner shut down Aawais Karni and Shah Jee housing societies. The housing societies were launched about 10 to 15 years ago. Hundreds of people have constructed houses there.
PRISON: Deputy Commissioner Dr Azmatullah Wazir handed over eight solar panels, three submersible machines for as many bores and two plates for one pedestal fan in the cooking area with medicines on Thursday to fund-starved Jarma prison, housing 670 inmates.
The superintendent of the prison, Mr Bari, told Dawn that they had already got solar panels for one bore. “Now the prison would get four operational bores to meet the water needs of the inmates,” he added.
POWER: The district administration and Pesco officials removed illegal power connections and recovered Rs2.4 million arrears from consumers in Junglekhel, Hafizabad and Garhijaats areas here on Thursday.
The assistant commissioner, Usman Ashraf, Pesco sub-divisional officer Aurangzeb and superintendent Amjid removed 32 illegal power connections and recovered millions of outstanding dues from the consumers. It may be recalled that earlier Rs132,000 arrears had been recovered during operation in Gumbat.
Meanwhile, the family members of 17-year-old Shamir, a resident of Nizampur in Nowshera district, have urged the people of Kohat to help them in finding his body.
He had drowned while taking a bath in the Indus River on August 20. The members of the aggrieved family have requested the residents of Khushalgarh, Toi Banda and other areas near the river in Kohat to inform them through the telephone number 03361935861 if they find the body of the drowned boy.
