Rejection of proposal Man kills woman, her father and brother

NAROWAL: A man allegedly shot a newly-married woman, her father and a brother dead after barging in their house in Gulberg Green Town here, along with his accomplices on Monday, after failing to abduct the woman, whom he wanted to marry but his proposal was rejected.

The suspect and his accomplices fled the scene brandishing their weapons after killing the three members of the family.

As per the first information report (FIR) registered by Narowal city police, on the complaint of Abrar, his married sister Tehmina Bibi, father Nawaz and brother Afzal, were present in the house when the suspect, Hamza, along with his armed accomplices, forced his entry and attempted to abduct his sister.

The complainant said as his father and brother offered resistance, the suspect opened indiscriminate fire, leaving Tehmina, Nawaz and Afzal dead on the spot.

Prime suspect, two others arrested

Abrar told police that Hamza wanted to marry his sister Tehmina, but his father rejected the proposal and married her to someone else a few weeks ago.

Tehmina had come to visit her parents when the incident occurred, he added.

In the FIR, the complainant has nominated Hamza, Rehman, Rafiq, a woman, Nanhi Rafiq and two unknown armed men.

On receiving the information about the triple murder, District Police Officer Rana Tahir Rahman Khan immediately reached the spot, along with a heavy police contingent.

The DPO ordered immediate arrest of the suspects by setting up police pickets at the entry and exit points of the district.

He also formed three police teams headed by deputy superintendent of police (Headquarters).The police shifted the dead bodies to the district headquarters hospital for the postmortem examination.

Punjab Inspector General of Police Dr Usman Anwar had taken notice of the murders of three members of a family and sought a report from the DPO.

In a late night development, the police claimed to have arrested three of the nominated suspects.

The DPO told Dawn the police teams, using human intelligence sources and modern technology, arrested the prime suspect, Hamza, and his two accomplices -- Rehman and Rafiq.

He said the police were looking for the remaining suspects, hoping they would be traced soon.
