CDA makes up to 40pc cut in fuel consumption

ISLAMABAD: In the wake of the unprecedented increase in petroleum products prices and growing criticism against government officials for availing free petrol and electricity, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Friday imposed a cut on fuel facility being enjoyed by its officers.

Under the directive of Chairman Anwarul Haq, the administration wing of the CDA issued a notification imposing a 40pc cut on fuel being used by the chairman and members of the CDA board and 30pc cut for other officers.

According to the notification, now the maximum limit for the chairman and members’ offices is 400 and 300 litres per month, respectively.

The directors general are allowed to get 225 litres and deputy directors general 200 litres per month.

Similarly, directors are allowed to get 175 litres and deputy directors and assistant directors to utilise 150 litres per month. After the latest hike in petroleum products prices and power bills, the citizens have been demanding an end to the culture of free fuel and electricity for government officials.

An official of the CDA said that the officers of CDA never get free electricity, however, they were given free fuel for official work. “Now the chairman has imposed the cut on fuel facility,” said the official, adding this is the right time for other government organisations to impose some cuts on the use of fuel.

“Wapda should end the culture of providing free electricity to its officers,” he said.
