Drop scene of abduction drama : Brazilian girl recovered from father’s house

NAROWAL: Sialkot police recovered a six-year-old Brazilian girl from the house of her Pakistani father at Majra Kalan village, Sialkot district, putting an end to the “abduction” drama staged by him.

The recovered girl has been handed over to the Brazilian Embassy in Islamabad.

Mohammad Hasan Iqbal District Police Officer Sialkot told Dawn that Abdul Rahman, a resident of Majra Kalan village, had gone to Brazil through Greece 13 years ago. He developed relations with a Brazilian woman, Suely Bargas Do Nascimento, who gave birth to their daughter, Megan Barghs.

The DPO said that five years ago Rahman got separated from the Brazilian woman.

According to Brazilian law, he said, their daughter would live with her mother for five days and with the father for two days in a week after their separation.

He said on Aug 20, Rahman returned to Pakistan along with his daughter. He left the Brazilian girl with his parents at his native village Majra Kalan, Sambaryal tehsil, and went to Germany on Aug 27.

A day before going to Germany, Rahman lodged a fake FIR on Aug 26 at the Factory Area police station in Sheikhupura district, saying unknown persons had abducted his daughter when she was playing in the park, in order to permanently deprive the Brazilian woman of her daughter.

On knowing about the “abduction” of her daughter, the girl’s mother, contacted Brazilian consul general in Munich, Germany, and informed the office about the matter.

The German consulate expressed its concern at the girl’s abduction through an email to the Brazilian Embassy in Pakistan and sought her recovery.

Following the email, Brazil Embassy Deputy Head of Mission Fabiom Chaves wrote a letter to the Sialkot DPO for the recovery of the girl.

The DPO said the Sambarial deputy superintendent of police (DSP) and Airport station house officer (SHO) were given the task of the girl’s recovery. He said the police, using human intelligence sources and modern technology, along with the consular officer of Brazil Embassy, recovered the girl safely from Rehman’s house at Majra Kalan.

The DPO said after her recovery, the girl has been handed over to the Brazilian Embassy.
