Khuhro urges ECP to announce polls’ schedule as per Constitution

LARKANA: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Sindh president Nisar Ahmed Khuhro has urged the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to announce the schedule for election which must be held within 90 days as per the constitution, after dissolution of assemblies.

He observed that when there would be no increase in assembly seats in the light of fresh delimitations, it (doing delimitations) would be an exercise in futility.

He informed that PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari would embark on an election campaign in Sindh from Saturday to mobilise workers.

That would be the drive to contact people, said Senator Khuhro in a statement on Friday.

In the first leg of the campaign, the party chairman would visit Badin and Tando Muhammed Khan, the sources close to Mr Khuhro said.

The leaders and workers of the PPP were asked to activate and inch up the election activities, said Khuhro.

He claimed that the PPP akin to its excellent performance in the recent local bodies elections would sweep polls in Sindh on the base of its performance record during the rule in the field of health, education, communication, agriculture and other sectors.

Commenting on the Grand Democratic Alliance’s moves and formation of political alliances among different conglomerates, he said their activities itself spoke of their defeat. It made no difference, he said. He was confident that such anti-PPP grouping prior to elections would not be able to create any dent in the party’s popularity.

He said the PPP was not in political alliance with the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), therefore, it would contest elections from its platform.

He said the party, which would muster people’s support in the election, would have the right to rule and if people extended thumping support to Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, he would become prime minister.

Without any clear reference to any political party, he said they were opponents of the 18th Amendment and provincial autonomy, and absorbing youth in jobs. That was a dictatorial mindset, he said and advised them to refrain from creating hate. He alleged that the GDA and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) had gone in courts only to create hindrance in providing jobs to eligible people.
