Coast Guards man, teenage boy shot dead by robbers in city

KARACHI: A soldier of Pakistan Coast Guards (PCG) and a teenage boy were shot dead by armed robbers over resistance in separate incidents in the metropolis on Saturday morning, police and rescuers said.

South-DIG Syed Asad Raza said the Muhammad Bilal, 25, was gunned down when he resisted robbers near Capri Cinema.

Preedy SHO Amir Ikram said Bilal was talking to someone on his cell phone while passing through M.A. Jinnah Road towards Numaish when suddenly two armed muggers riding a motorbike arrived there and tried to snatch his phone. As he put up resistance, the robbers opened fired on him and sped away.

He suffered critical bullet wounds in the chest and was taken to a hospital where he died during treatment.

An ID card found from his pocket showed that he was an employee of the Coast Guards.

The victim, a resident of Scheme-33, originally hailed from Vehari, Punjab.

The body was shifted to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for medico-legal formalities.

In another incident in Baldia Town, a teenager was gunned down at Jhangvi Chowk.

Ittehad Town SHO Imdad Panhwar said some armed robbers tried to snatch a cell phone from 18-year-old Muzamil Majeed at gunpoint. When he put up resistance, the robbers shot him and fled, taking away his phone.

He suffered critical bullet injuries and was taken to the CHK where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
