50 ‘illegal’ Afghan immigrants held in Karachi

KARACHI: Police on Sunday claimed to have arrested more than four dozen Afghan nationals for staying in the metropolis without valid travel documents.

They said that a citywide crackdown on illegal immigrants was launched in which police teams of different districts spotted suspicious persons and checked their identity documents. A total of 50 illegal immigrants were taken into custody, they added.

SSP-East Irfan Bahadur said that the district police carried out raids and apprehended 19 Afghans who were residing illegally in the metropolis.

Sharing details of the actions, he said that the Ferozabad police detained 10 and the Mobina Town police arrested nine Afghans and registered cases against them.

He said that cases had been registered against them under relevant sections of the Foreigners Ac.

Separately, the Malir police detained 17 Afghans living illegally in the city.

Malir SSP Tariq Illahi Mastoi said that the Quaidabad police conducted raids and detained five illegal Afghan immigrants, while the Shah Latif Town police arrested 12 more and registered cases against them.

The Sukkan police also apprehended 14 illegal Afghan immigrants and registered cases against them under the Foreigners Act.
