KPBC suspends strike notice of PHC Mingora bar

PESHAWAR: Sticking to its decision of not observing strike today (Thursday) on the call of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council has suspended a strike notice given by Peshawar High Court Mingora Bench Bar Association.

A day earlier, the general secretary of Mingora Bench Bar Association, Mohammad Riaz Mohammadzai, had issued a strike notice in the light of the call given by SCBA. He had announced to observe strike at PHC Mingora Bench today (Thursday).

In an order, issued by KPBC executive committee chairman Syed Mubashir Shah, it has been mentioned that the act of PHC Mingora Bench Bar Association is a violation of KPBC Rules, 2010, and KPBC Media and Strike Regulation Rules, 2022. It added that the strike notice was suspended.

The KPBC also issued notice to the general secretary of the association to appear in person before the executive committee on September 16 along with complete record positively.

A day earlier, KPBC rejected the strike call given by SCBA and stated that lawyers would participate in court proceedings on September 14.

It is pertinent to mention that an all Pakistan lawyers convention arranged by SCBA on September 7 had announced that lawyers would observe a countrywide strike on September 14 to ‘defend and uphold the Constitution, rule of law and human rights.’

The association had announced that lawyers across the country would hold peaceful protests within their respective bar associations in the form of rallies on that day.
