RANIPUR CASE

RANIPUR CASE: Considerable time has passed since the infamous Ranipur incident in which a 10-year-old girl had lost her life amid seriously debatable circumstances. Those under scrutiny were area influentials with due political and ‘spiritual’ connections. The delay in the investigations and dispensation of justice is making people wonder what might be going on behind the scenes. Though the police department has been claiming that it is doing everything it can to provide justice to the affected family, the failure to even arrest some of the prominent suspects in the case is raising questions in the minds of the people.

DISPENSING JUSTICE: The wife of a civil judge was recently found involved in torturing a teenage housemaid who had to be admitted to a hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU). The accused, however, got a protective bail even after she remained in hiding for many days. Usually such cases end up in a behind-the-scene compromise even in cases involving the death of the victims. The provision in law of compromise in such cases should not be allowed. Asking to amend and implement child labour laws is an exercise in futility till poverty gets eradicated.

LAHORE EATERIES: Amid all the talk of economic hardships being faced by the people, it is ironic that the number of eateries in Lahore is soaring. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of food outlets in the city that cater to a range of customers every day. The prices they charge are, to put it mildly, exorbitant as the government’s price control mechanism is an utter failure.

POWER CRISIS: The power crisis in the Makran region is getting worse. The Quetta Electric Supply Company (Qesco) has failed to provide any explanation in this regard. Balochistan has been exploited for a long time. This should end.
