Afghan arrested with stolen jewellery worth Rs4.2m in Chitral
CHITRAL: The Lower Chitral police arrested a thief and recovered gold ornaments worth Rs4.2 million and Rs319,000 cash from him, which he had stolen from a house a day ago.
An official of Chitral police told Dawn that taking notice of the incident of theft committed at the house of Ateequllah in the Chitral Town, district police officer Ikramullah Khan had constituted a special team to arrest the thiefs and recover the ornaments and cash.
He said SHO city police station, Sub-Inspector Bulbul Hassan carried out an extensive investigation and succeeded to trace the alleged thief, Shafiqullah, who was an Afghan national, and recovered the stolen items from him. He said the Afghan national had also confessed to his involvement in many other cases of theft in the recent past.
Meanwhile, the Lower Chitral administration formally handed over the land purchased for the construction of the University of Chitral in Seen Lasht area near the main town on the Garam Chashma Road.
Assistant commissioner, Chitral, Mohammad Atif Jalib handed over the documents of 172 kanals of land to the university project director Eng Ziaullah Khan at a ceremony held at the makeshift campus of the varsity.
