Suspect drowns after jumping into sea to avoid arrest
KARACHI: A suspected robber jumped into the sea to avoid arrest and drowned on Monday, police said.
The Docks police said that two robbers were looting pedestrians in the Fisheries area. Some people informed the police and the law enforcers reached the spot and arrested one suspect.
Area SHO Mohammed Irfan said that his accomplice jumped into the sea to avoid arrest but drowned. The body was fished out and shifted to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities.
He was identified as Lalu Jehangir Khan. The held suspect was identified as Sumair Alam.
The SHO said both the suspects had past criminal records. Jehangir was arrested in an encounter with police case while the second one was wanted in eight robbery cases.
He said the police had recovered one snatched cell phone and pistol with a loaded magazine from their custody.
Man, son shot by robbers
A man and his son were shot at and wounded by armed robbers in Korangi on Monday, police said.
The Korangi Industrial Area police said that the victims, Mazhar Ali Shah, 55, and his son Ali Abbas, 18, were working at a workshop when armed pillion riders arrived there and tried to snatch Ali’s cell phone. When he put up resistance, the robbers opened fire on him and also shot his father when he tried to catch them.
Both the wounded were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where condition of the 18-year-old was said to be critical.
