PN employee, daughter shot dead in Korangi

KARACHI: A young employee of Pakistan Navy and his minor daughter were gunned down in Korangi on Sunday night, police said.

Korangi Industrial Area SHO Ubaidullah Khan said that Tahir Zaman, 26, was riding a motorbike, along with his wife, a son and two-year-old daughter, Anam, when unknown assailants opened fire on them near Chamra Chowrangi. They suffered critical bullet wounds and were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) where doctors pronounced them dead on arrival, he said.

The wife and his son remained unhurt in the incident, the area SHO said, adding that eight spent bullet casings were recovered from the scene of crime.

He said that apparently it was not an incident of robbery as the assailant did not take away anything from him or his wife.

He said some eyewitnesses told the police that they saw a quarrel between the victim and the assailants and then heard gunshots.

Talking to reporters at JPMC, SSP Hassan Sardar said that investigators were trying to find out whether it was an incident of robbery or personal enmity.

Meanwhile, caretaker Chief Minister retired Justice Maqbool Baqar took notice of the killing and directed Inspector General of Police Riffat Mukhtar Raja to arrest the killers forthwith.

Mob lynches ‘robber’

A suspected robber was lynched by a mob in North Nazimabad on late Saturday night.

An Edhi Foundation spokesperson said that a 25-year-old man was caught by area people near Five Star Chowrangi. They subjected him to a severe beating and he was already dead by the time police arrived at the scene.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Later, it was moved to the Edhi morgue in Sohrab Goth for want of identification.
