Detained brigadier’s wife files contempt plea against AAG

RAWALPINDI: The spouse of a detained army brigadier has filed a petition in Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi bench seeking contempt of court proceedings against an additional attorney general (AAG) for leveling ‘frivolous’ allegations against him and misguiding the judge.

Ummaira Saleem, wife of Brigadier Akhtar Subhan, stated in the petition that her husband was in the custody of the army authorities and had not been given a charge-sheet so far.

She said AAG Mohammad Siddique Awan had alleged that her husband was involved in anti-state activities whereas Brig Subhan is a true patriot.

She added that Mr Awan informed the judge on a previous date of hearing that Brig Subhan had been taken to Quetta, adding the military authorities arranged her meeting with her husband on Sept 24.

Last week, the LHC directed the military authorities to produce the detained army officer before the court.

Mr Awan stated before the court that Brig Subhan, who was working in the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Quetta, had been taken into custody for “serious charges”, including anti-state activities and corruption.

The AAG argued that the serving officer was taken into custody in accordance with the relevant provisions of Pakistan Army Act and Army Rules and Regulations.

The spouse of the army officer in the petition contended that her husband was taken into custody by officials of Special Investigation Branch of the Military Police on June 22, 2023.

In the petition, her counsel Advocate Inamur Rahim cited 15 judgements of high courts and the Supreme Court in which such petitions had been entertained and the orders of military authorities set aside.
