CBH secretary booked for dispossessing ex-employee’s family of flat

HYDERABAD: Police have registered a case against the Cantonment Board Hyderabad (CBH) secretary under a judicial order for forcibly dispossessing the family of a retired Military Estate Office (MEO) employee of their flat.

According to the FIR, Abdul Majeed Arain, who retired from the MEO Hyderabad circle as accountant in January 2023, was dispossessed by the CBH staff on Aug 21.

He has nominated CBH secretary Faisal Jadoon (a civilian), Ayaz Ahmed, CBH anti-encroachment cell incharge Mehboob Ahmed and his son Mohammad Shoaib. Mr Arain was also busy in the property business after retirement.

He said he had gone to pick his daughter from college and when returned to his flat located in the Cantonment Staff Colony behind the CBH offices, he was not allowed to enter his house and all his household articles were thrown out of it.

Mr Arain said the flat’s possession was given to Mehboob Ahmed. He claimed that his 30-bore pistol, six rounds, arms licence, Rs850,000 cash, dollars equivalent to Rs300,000 and three sets of gold jewellery were still lying in his flat, which was in possession of Mehboob Ahmed. For such things, he had separately moved the concerned court of law, he added.

He said he was given a notice to vacate his flat within three days to which he responded with an application, requesting three months’ time so that he could arrange an alternative accommodation for his family.

In the meantime, he said, his son Umer Farooq, also a CBH employee, was transferred from Bahawalpur to Hyderabad and the complainant requested that his flat should be transferred in Umer’s name.

According to him, many other employees are in possession of their allotted accommodations within the colony after having been retired, but his request was not entertained.

He said that when police did not hear his complaint, he had to move the sessions court through Advocate Razia Patoli.

The court had ordered registration of his FIR, which was registered on Tuesday night.
