Fashion designer moves LHC for details of cases

LAHORE: Fashion designer Khadija Shah, who is on judicial remand in multiple cases of May 9 riots, has approached the Lahore High Court seeking details of all known and undisclosed cases registered against her.

Advocate Sameer Khosa filed a petition on behalf of Ms Shah saying the petitioner has been falsely implicated by the police in the cases as she did not commit any unlawful acts on the fateful day of May 9.

The petition states that the petitioner has a right to know if there are any cases made against her to have a fair trial. It says the right to fair trial also includes the right to access to justice.

It argues that the petitioner has a legitimate apprehension that she will be falsely implicated in unknown FIRs if the court grants her post-arrest bail in the old cases. It notes that the petitioner has been implicated in a new case after a long delay only when her post-arrest bail in the Jinnah House attack case was about to be finally decided.

The petition asks the court to order the police and the FIA to produce a list of FIRs registered against the petitioner or in which she may be required whether in Punjab or anywhere in the country.

It also asks the court to restrain the respondents from harassing, arresting or detaining the petitioner for the purpose of public order and taking adverse measures against her.

The petition seeks a protective bail to enable Ms Shah to approach any court for bail before arrest and take part in any investigation against her.
