Bail of Imran’s sister, her husband extended

MUZAFFARGARH: Special Judge Naveed Qureshi of the Anti-Corruption Establishment on Monday extended the bail of former premier Imran Khan’s sister Dr Uzma Khan and her husband Ahad Majeed Niazi until Oct 13.

The couple is facing charges related to the alleged fraudulent acquisition of 5,261 kanal land at a low price in Layyah.

During the proceedings, Special Judge Naveed Qureshi directed Uzma Khan to appear in court. In her defense, Uzma Khan was represented by Jam Muhammad Younis, a member of the Punjab Bar Council, and Rana Arif Kamal Noon.

During the hearing, the public prosecutor pointed out that an investigation into the accused Falak Sher had not yet been completed. Consequently, the court ordered Falak Sher to be investigated by the anti-corruption officer on the same day, but the investigation could not be done.

The court adjourned the hearing until Oct 13.

PROTEST: Sewer workers from the Municipal Corporation have been protesting for the last one week against non-payment of three-month salaries.

The protests have resulted in dirty water emitting a foul odour accumulating in front of the deputy commissioner’s office and Sardar Korey Khan Public School, causing inconvenience to schoolchildren and their parents.

The protests continued on Monday as sewermen gathered outside the press club, demanding payment of salaries.

They alleged that the MC employed over 200 fictitious employees with influential connections, disbursing substantial sums for their salaries while neglecting the sewer workers.

Last week, Deputy Commissioner Mian Usman Ali and ADC Revenue Imran Shams held meetings with the sewer workers and assured them that their salaries would be paid within two days. However, the workers claim that a full week has passed, and they have yet to receive a single penny.
