Police accused of taking bribe for registration of FIR

TAXILA: A complainant allegedly paid illegal gratification to officials at the Wah Cantonment police station to register a first investigation report (FIR) about the illegal possession of his vehicle.

Mohsin Ali, a native of Wah Cantonment, told newsmen here on Tuesday that Mohammad Ismail hired his vehicle on monthly rent four months ago but was now refusing to return it. He alleged that he visited the Wah Cantonment police station several times with a request to the station house officer (SHO) and other officials to register a case, but they refused.

He alleged that a dispatcher at the police station asked him to pay him Rs20,000 so he would use his contacts to get an FIR registered.

He said despite paying him the amount, the FIR was not registered. Later, the dispatcher asked him to pay Rs2,000 to another official posted to the office of the subdivisional police officer (SDPO) at Wah, which he did.
