Pakistan U-19 remain in charge against Sri Lanka

KARACHI: Pakistan U-19 continued to dominate the proceedings against their Sri Lankan coun­t­erparts on the second day of the one-off four-day match here at the National Bank Stadium on Monday.

After declaring their first innings at 433-9, the Saad Baig-led Pakistan U-19 restricted Sri Lankan U-19 to 155-6 in 56 overs at stumps which left the visitors trailing by 278 runs.

Earlier on Monday after resuming at 319-1, the hosts added 114 runs while losing eight wickets in the day.

Opener Shahzaib Khan, who remained unbeaten on Sunday, top-scored for Pakistan with 161 from 276 balls; his innings included 12 boundaries and one six. Shahzaib’s opening partner Azan Awais had scored 104 on the first day.

Saad made a 70-ball 68 studded with six boundaries and one six. Malsha Tharupathi took with three wickets while Vihas Thewmika and Ruvishan Perera earned two wickets each.

For Sri Lanka, Pullindu Perera played a resilient knock of 53 not out off 71 balls, featuring eight fours while kipper Sineth Jayawardene (38 off 45) was the other notable contributor. Aimal Khan claimed two wickets for 39 runs.
