Case against Parvez, Moonis adjourned

LAHORE: A special court (Central-I) on Monday adjourned a money-laundering case against PTI President Parvez Elahi and his son, former federal minister Moonis Elahi, as the jail officials did not present the former in the court for medical reasons.

An official of Adiala Jail submitted a medical report of Mr Elahi before the court. He said the jail doctor did not permit the suspect to travel from Rawalpindi to Lahore for medical reasons.

Advocate Amir Saeed Rawn appeared on behalf of the Elahi family and requested the court to allow appointment of a pleader to represent Moonis Elahi in the proceedings.

However, a prosecutor objected to the request saying the suspect, Moonis, fled the country to avoid the court’s proceedings.

Judge Abdul Sattar Langah adjourned the hearing for a week and sought arguments from both sides.

The FIA registered three cases of alleged money laundering against Moonis and his family after he left the country. His father Parvez Elahi is on judicial remand in multiple cases registered against him.

The FIA previously told the court that reports regarding the service of summons to Moonis to the extent of his addresses in the UK and Spain had been received through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It said the reports showed that nobody was available on the suspect’s addresses in Spain and the UK. After going through the reports, the judge had issued bailable warrants for the arrest of Moonis.
