Wonder Craft: Multipurpose rainbow tin

Sometimes, we purchase canned foods and, as usual, it’s a common practice to discard the tin can once we’ve consumed its contents. However, instead of regarding these cans as mere waste, let’s repurpose them for various needs and unleash your inner creativity. That’s the essence of today’s craft project, using tin cans for various purposes.

Things you need:

  1. Foam sheets, at least in five colours.

  2. Ruler

  3. Scissors

  4. Hot glue

  5. Double tape

  6. A piece of cardboard to make the lid

Directions:

  1. Cut half-inch-wide strips from foam sheets to match the diameter of the tin can you are using. Set them aside, as shown in picture 2.

  2. Apply double-sided tape around the tin can, as shown in picture 3.

  3. Take the strips and attach them one by one around the tin can, starting from the bottom and pasting your way up, pictures 4 and 5.

  4. For creating bows, cut another set of strips from all foam sheets, this time making them one-centimetre-wide and four inches long. These strips will be used for making bows, as shown in picture 6.

  5. Use hot glue to join the sides of the strips to create a bow. Then, glue a small strip in the middle, as shown in pictures 7, 8, and 9.

  6. Starting from the bottom, glue each-coloured bow onto its corresponding coloured strip on the tin can, see picture 10.

  7. To make the lid, cut a circle from cardboard according to the diameter of the tin can. Apply foam sheet (in a colour of your choice) on both sides; see pictures 11 and 12.

  8. To create the handle, use all the colours you used on the tin can. Cut strips that are four inches long and one centimetre wide. Then, paste them together as shown in picture 13.

  9. Attach the handle to the top of the lid, as shown in picture 14.

With its beautiful appearance, this multipurpose tin can is now ready for you to use as you see fit. You may choose to affix a foam sheet inside, but that’s entirely optional.
