‘Renewable energy requires holistic planning’

KARACHI: K-Electric (KE) Chief Executive Officer Moonis Alvi has said renewable energy requires more holistic planning and strategic government intervention to effectively lower the cost of electricity for end consumers.

The KE chief said this while speaking about the power utility’s plans to have a 30 per cent share of renewable energy in its future generation mix at the 2nd Pakistan Climate Conference hosted by the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce & Industries (OICCI), according to a KE spokesperson.

“If you create an overall generation mix for the country that is based on renewable energy and diverse beyond solar, it could lower the overall cost of electricity as well,” he said. However, he added that capacity payments remained a contributor towards higher tariffs for end users.
