KU students protest against 30pc hike in tuition fee

KARACHI: Students at Karachi University (KU) held a protest on the campus against the academic council’s recent decision to increase tuition fee by 30 per cent.

Led by activists of Peoples Students Federation, the protesters chanted slogans against the administration, describing the decision as highly unfair and demanding its immediate withdrawal.

The protesters also blocked the passage of point buses for some hours.

It might be recalled that KU academic council in its meeting held on Oct 17 approved a massive 30 per cent increase in student fee that would be applicable from the next academic year.

The meeting chaired by KU Vice Chancellor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi saw no note of dissent against the decision that’s bound to impact students across the board.

Sources said the decision was ‘unprecedented’ given the fact that the institution offered little facilities to students, many of them were forced to risk their lives and take classes in crumbling infrastructure.
