Over 80 ‘aliens’ deported through Chaman border

KARACHI: As many as 83 more undocumented Afghan immigrants staying illegally in Pakistan were on Wednesday deported from the city, taking the total number of deportees to 544.

Commissioner Muhammad Saleem Rajput told Dawn that the 83 deported illegal foreigners included 45 children, 19 men and as many women. “They were sent to Chaman border through two buses,” he added.

The commissioner said that over 26,000 illegal Afghan immigrants had left the city voluntarily.

He said arrangements had also been finalised to send the illegal immigrants to Balochistan by a special train. “As and when we have over 600 illegal foreigners at the two transit points, we will send them by the special train which has the capacity of over 700 passengers,” he added.

Over 930 Afghan nationals were brought to the transit points and most of them released as they held Afghan Citizenship Cards, he said.
