Rail traffic disrupted due to goods train derailment

TOBA TEK SINGH: Train traffic between Toba Tek Singh and Faisalabad faced a suspension of over three hours on Thursday when the boggy of a goods train, traveling from Karachi to Chichu Ki Mallian, derailed at Gojra.

Reports said an underpass was under construction near Gojra-Toba Bypass for Siraj Town locality. Due to earth digging, an alternate track had been temporarily laid, where the derailment occurred.

The Rehman Baba 47 Up express train, headed from Karachi to Peshawar, remained halted at Toba Tek Singh railway station for two hours.

The track was repaired by the Faisalabad relief operation team.

ARRESTED: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested on Thursday night three accused involved in Hawala Hundi and illegal currency exchange business during raids from Toba Tek Singh and Sargodha.

An FIA official said arrested persons were identified as Bilal Asif, Faisal Ali and Faisal Dawood. Currency worth millions of rupees and a number of debit cards and mobile phones were also recovered from their custody.

He said raids were being conducted to arrest their accomplices.

Meanwhile, a Multan FIA team raided a place in Mianchannu, Khanewal district, and arrested one Zohaib involved in providing unlawfully internet service in his area through cable connections. The team also took into custody internet system devices and network cards.

A mobile company’s microwave tower from which the accused was getting service was also seized.

TRAFFIC SUSPENSION: After the water of Rakh branch canal overflowed, traffic remained suspended for several hours in Faisalabad on Samundri Road on Thursday.

A spokesperson for the Faisalabad Wasa said the staff, along with machinery, actively worked to drain the water.

The road near Novelty overhead bridge was improved through continuous efforts, utilising six dewatering sets and sucker machines.

The spokesperson claimed all the canal water near the bridge was cleared.
