Sisters-in-law reunite after 76 years at Kartarpur

NAROWAL: Two sisters-in-law, who were separated at Partition, reunited after 76 years at Gurdwara Darbar Sahib on Tuesday.

Due to social media and the opening of the Kartarpur Corridor between Pakistan and India, the reunion of separated families in India and Pakistan has increased.

The Kartarpur Corridor, a flagship project of the Imran government, is internationally recognised for peace and love.

At the time of Partition, the families of Surendra Kaur and her sister-in-law Chilo Rani were separated in Indian Punjab. Sardar Jaswinder Singh, along with his mother-in-law, 102-year-old Surendra Kaur, and other family members, arrived at Gurdwara Darbar Sahib from India via the Kartarpur Corridor.

Manohlal and Bachanlal, along with their mother-in-law, 93-year-old Cheilo Rani, and other family members, arrived at Gurdwara Darbar Sahib from Sambarial, Sialkot district.

The Pakistani family and the administration of Gurdwara Darbar Sahib welcomed the Indian family.

Surendra and Chheelo Rani hugged each other and expressed happiness at the meeting. Both families performed religious rituals at Baba Guru Nanak’s Samadhi and grave.

Sardar Jaswinder Singh said due to Sikh pilgrims coming to Pakistan through the Kartarpur Corridor and social media, the family separated after 76 years has reunited. He said he was grateful to the Pakistan government that today we were meeting because of the Kartarpur Corridor.

Pakistani and Indian families visited different parts of Gurdwara Darbar Sahib. Both families also had food together in Baba Guru Nanak’s Langar Hall. Gifts were also presented to the families by the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib administration.
