KMC praised for offering quality education

PESHAWAR: Speakers at the convocation of the Khyber Medical College here on Saturday praised the educational institution for setting high standards in teaching.

“The Khyber Medical College is the only medical institution in the province to introduce a modular learning system. It is also training its graduates and postgraduate students to become good doctors,” KMU Vice-Chancellor Prof Ziaul Haq told the college’s convocation.

He appreciated the college for innovative academic approaches and said other colleges should follow the KMC, the oldest medical school of the province.

Dean of the KMC Prof Mahmud Aurangzeb said the college with a glorious history of almost 70 years was a leader in medical education.

He said the college’s students continued to do exceptionally well in all academic fields.

Prof Aurangzeb thanked Prof Dr. Omar Taimur Attiq for showing up as the most distinguished KMC alumnus as endorsed by the college’s academic council.

He said the KMC had excellent faculty, whose members rendered excellent services at both national and international levels.

“Ours is the first educational institution in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to make its mark in medicine teaching at national and international levels,” he said.

Prof Mahmud said the college has so far produced more than 10,000 doctors and 215 more received degrees.

He said the college was attached to the 1,300 bedded Khyber Teaching Hospital, which had modern facilities, best laboratories, operating theatres and other facilities providing students with the best possible learning.

The dean requested the governor, who was present on the occasion as the chief guest, to grant the university’s status to the college.

“Students of this educational institution have excelled at both national and international levels. Our graduates are now serving not only in the province but also in the armed forces and many international organisations,” he said.

He said the college was also called the mother institution of other medical and dental colleges.

Governor Ghulam Ali, was the chief guest on the occasion, distributed degrees to students.

He said the government was spending large sums of money on the development of health and education sectors.

“By virtue of your profession, you [doctors] have a prestigious position in society. The Almighty Allah has chosen you to serve and treat the people,” he said.

The governor complained that people were fast becoming intolerant.

“The people associated with every field of life, especially the medical profession, should maintain tolerance and courtesy at work,” he said.

Adviser to the chief minister on health Dr Riaz Anwar, KMU registrar Inamullah Wazir, faculty members and students along with their parents also attended the ceremony.

Tabish Ikram clinched nine gold medals in the academic session 2020 and Faryal Masood won eight gold medals in the session 2021.
