Cop martyred, two injured in Bannu, Kohat attacks

LAKKI MARWAT/KOHAT: A policeman was martyred and his colleague received injuries when unknown motorcyclists attacked them on Mandan Road in Bannu district on Sunday, an official said.

He said two cops of the Ababeel Squad came under fire when they were on patrol duty in the area. He said the attackers escaped.

The attack left Iqrarullah dead, and his colleague, Shafiur Rehman seriously wounded.

The official said the deceased and the injured were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, wherefrom the injured was referred to a Peshawar hospital due to his critical condition.

The funeral prayers of the martyred cop were offered at the police lines.

Divisional commissioner Parweiz Sabatkhel, RPO Qasim Ali Khan, DPO Iftekhar Shah and military authorities attended his funeral prayers.

A police squad presented a guard of honour to their fallen colleague, while civil administration, police and army officials laid floral wreaths on his coffin.

Meanwhile, a policeman was seriously injured after unknown persons fired at him when he was going home from duty in the cantonment police station of Kohat on Saturday night.

Officials said constable Gulab Khan was on his way home in Garhi Mawaz Khan area when unknown assailants attacked him.

He was taken to the KDA Teaching Hospital by a Rescue 1122 team, where doctors operated upon him and retrieved bullets from his stomach and legs.
