PTI seeks elections under supervision of judiciary

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, has said that the upcoming general elections should be conducted under the supervision of judiciary to ensure transparency, impartiality and fairness.

Speaking at a news conference at Peshawar Press Club on Thursday, PTI central spokesperson Advocate Moazzam Butt said that the entire nation wanted that elections should be held in a transparent manner to overcome grave issues prevalent in the country.

“Keeping in view the current situation, the nation will not accept the results of election. By putting most of politicians behind bars and pushing PTI to wall will have negative impact that can prove harmful for the country,” he said.

Flanked by Ikram Kathana, the head of PTI provincial social media team, and Advocate Humaira Gul, Mr Butt accused the caretaker government of forcefully keeping PTI away from the election campaign.

“In the past whenever people were prevented from making a decision, the results were disastrous,” he said. He said that Election Commission of Pakistan had once again shown partiality and gave PTI only 20 days for intra-party elections. He added that it was a biased decision of ECP.

Mr Butt said that activists of PTI would use all the tactics with patience and tolerance in a democratic manner. “PTI lawyers’ wing is struggling to ensure that the nation gets a free opportunity to elect the leadership, for this purpose we have also filed a petition in Peshawar High Court with the hope to get justice,” he added.

In the said petition, he said, they had made parties the president, caretaker prime minister, caretaker chief minister and governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, chief election commissioner, provincial election commissioner and media organisations. He added that and notices were already issued in that regard.
