Two Mepco officials injured by power thief

BAHAWALPUR: Two Multan Electric Power Company officials were injured in an alleged attack by a power thief here on Tuesday at village 374-WB in Basti Malook sub-division of Dunyapur tehsil.

Reports said suspect Muhammad Naeem Ahmed along with his accomplices allegedly attacked, tortured and opened fire on Mepco staffers Shakil Akram and Ghulam Yaseam who went to remove his unlawful electric wires at his residence at village 374-WB.

According to a Mepco press release, Naeem also snatched Mepco officials’ motorcycle, mobile phone and a cash of Rs30,000

On the complaint of EXEN Aamir Ansari, Basti Malook police registered a case against Naeem and his accomplices who are yet to be arrested.

Meanwhile, the project construction division of Mepco claimed to have completed four upgrade projects to reduce line losses at a cost of Rs173.4 million.

As per a release, the projects included Bahawalpur circle’s 11KV transmission line at Basti Lal Kamal which cost Rs8.4m. In Rahim Yar Khan district circle, the project of Aminabad upgraded at a cost of Rs1.96m.

BoM: The Punjab government has constituted board of management (BoM) of Bahawalpur arts council.

According to a notification, noted educationist Prof Dr Aslam Adeeb will be president of the arts council. The official members will be chief executive officer of district education authority (DEA), representatives of divisional commissioner and deputy commissioners while non-official members are: Agha Sadaf Mehdi, Dr. Nasrullah Khan Nasir, Ijaz Tawakal Khan, Dr.Nawaz Kawish, Ghulam Hussain and Ms.Muzamil Bhatti.

CONTEST: The PAF college, Sargodha, won Anwar Skindar Khan inter-collegiate bilingual declamation English contest trophy while Government College University, Lahore, was the runner-up at Sadiq Public School (SPS), Bahawalpur, here on Tuesday.

Ms Ayesha Umar of Fatima Fertiliser School, Mirpur Khas, and Hajra Ahmed of FFC Grammar School, Goth Machi, were adjudged first and second in individual English contest. SPS Principal David Dowdles gave away the prizes.
