Three held for torture of polio team
CHINIOT: The Chenabnagar police have registered a case against three people and arrested them for allegedly humiliating and torturing a polio team, including a woman.
The case was registered under sections 354, 186, and 34 of Pakistan Penal Code against Basharat, Musaarat Ahmad, and Manzoor Ahmad, residents of Mohallah Nusratabad.
A polio vaccination team comprising Amtul Shakoor and Fawad Ahmad from Chenabnagar went to Basharat Ahmad’s house to administer polio drops to his children, but he refused. Upon insistence from the team, Basharat and his brother Musarrat started hurling insults and physically assaulted polio worker Amtul Shakoor. When another polio worker, Fawad, attempted to rescue her, they attacked him with a brick, causing a serious head injury.
The incident spread through social media, reaching all polio teams, who then brought it to the attention of Health CEO Dr Tariq Sohail and Chiniot DC Muhammad Asif Raza.
Mr Raza contacted District Police Officer Abdullah Ahmad, who ordered registration of a case and arrest of the suspects.
The Chenabnagar police registered the case and arrested the suspects.
POWER DEFAULTER: A Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (Fesco) team, led by Line Superintendent Waqar Ahsan, conducted a raid on the premises of Aftab Ahmad, a defaulter previously caught stealing electricity.
He had received a detection bill of Rs416,134 and faced disconnection of electricity supply.
Aftab had illegally restored the electricity supply. When the Fesco team attempted disconnection, Aftab accompanied by his accomplices Riaz Ahmad, Mubashar, and four unidentified men, came there and held the staff hostage along with the vehicle.
The Fesco employees contacted their office as a result officials Arif Hussain, Jafar Hussain, Javed Iqbal, Tahir Shahzad, and Hassan Abu Bakar came there and rescued their colleagues.
Fesco Sub Divisional Officer Adnan Masih filed an application for the registration of another case against the suspects, as they were already implicated in a prior electricity theft case.
The city police have registered the case.
