CM opens Akbar Chowk flyovers

LAHORE: Punjab caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Thursday inaugurated the Maulana Muhammad Ali Johar (Akbar Chowk) flyovers.

As many as 10 protected U-turns have been built on the 2.2km long Maulana Muhammad Ali Johar Flyovers Project.

“It is one of the longest flyovers project being built for the general traffic in the provincial capital. A signal-free corridor has been established with the completion of the project starting from Wahdat Road up to Peco Road. Protected U-turns have been constructed at Akbar Chowk, Shauk Chowk, Jinnah Hospital, Model Town Link Road, Katcha Jail Road and Peco Road, including Madr-i-Millat Road,” the CM said.

Naqvi said transportation of approximately 250,000 vehicles per day would be eased.

He said remodelling of the College Road project had also been launched.

“Precious trees have been saved by making an alteration in the project and not a single tree has been cut. Rather 285 trees have been saved and 300 new trees have been planted surrounding the project,” he said.

Mohsin Naqvi said it took a period of less than seven months for the construction of Maulana Muhammad Ali Johar flyovers despite a court stay order being enforced for over a month.
