Barbie star Margot Robbie addresses sequel

Barbie star and producer Margot Robbie addressed the prospect of a sequel to the highly successful Barbie movie, which earned $1.4 billion globally. Speaking to AP Entertainment, Robbie hinted at the unpredictability of a follow-up, emphasising that their primary goal was creating a singular, impactful film rather than planning for a franchise. Despite not ruling out the idea, Robbie underscored the importance of Barbie’s box office success for original films, especially those featuring female leads, challenging industry misconceptions.

Robbie praised director Greta Gerwig for “changing the game” and expressed optimism that Barbie’s triumph would pave the way for more big-budget original ideas in the future.

A darker version of a Superman villain

Prepare for a darker rendition of the iconic Superman villain Bizarro, as Marvel writer Jason Aaron ventures into DC Comics for an all-new Superman story.

Speaking at the Thought Bubble comic book festival in England, Aaron expressed his desire to delve into the character’s complexity, highlighting the misunderstood nature of the ‘reverse Superman.’

“I want to tell the story that shows what I love about these characters, but hopefully does something you haven’t seen before,” Aaron explained, aiming for a more serious tone in his exploration of Bizarro in the upcoming storyline.

DC announces The Joker Year One

DC unveils The Joker Year One as part of its 2024 Dawn of DC publishing initiative. After the conclusion of the ‘Mindbomb’ story in January’s Batman #141, readers will embark on a weekly, three-part adventure in February 2024. Written by Chip Zdarsky and featuring art by Giuseppe Camuncoli, Stefano Nesi, Andrea Sorrentino, Alejandro Sánchez and Dave Stewart, the narrative explores the mysterious origins of The Joker, challenging readers’ perceptions.

The series begins with Batman #142 on February 6, followed by issues #143 and #144, each delving deeper into The Joker Year One storyline. Following this, Dark Prisons takes centre stage in Batman #145–#148.
