Political rhetoric

THE election fever is on, and television news channels are spending a lot of time on giving coverage to lengthy press conferences and public gatherings. Regardless of anything else, including the utterly tragic happenings in Palestine, political inanities in the country are consuming people’s time. In fact, it is fair to say that they are wasting, not consuming, people’s time

The coverage is not taking the narrative forward at all because the political parties themselves have nothing to take their own respective narratives forward. It is all about sacrifices and performances in the distant past.

These are actually nothing more than perceived sacrifices and self-glorified performances. They have nothing in their kitty to talk about the recent past because none of the parties could deliver in the last five or so years. The thugs are now posing as victims.

Besides, the mantra of corruption has lost its charm as all mainstream parties are now sailing in the same boat.

I wonder if the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra), or any other body, has any role in controlling such out-of-proportion media content.
