Hepatitis A spreading in Gaza’s relief school, says UNRWA’s Thomas White

Thomas White, the director of UNRWA affairs in Gaza, has said there is a Hepatitis A outbreak at one of the UN-run schools inside the besieged enclave.

“Sanitation is an issue. People are jammed in very congested classrooms… the risk of disease is very much present in Gaza,” White told BBC, adding that in UNRWA schools, the water infrastructure is completely overwhelmed with an average of 125 people using one toilet.

Hepatitis A is a highly contagious, short-term liver infection that can be spread through close personal contact or eating contaminated food or drink.
