1,663 women get degrees at Multan varsity convocation

LAHORE: As many as 1,663 graduates were awarded degrees at the sixth convocation of the Women University Multan (WUM) at Mattital Campus on Monday.

Punjab Governor Balighur Rehman presided over the convocation while representative of South Punjab secretariat, members of syndicate, academic council, directors, principal officers, controller of examinations, political and social personalities, media representatives, and students along with their parents participated in a large number in the convocation.

The governor conferred degrees on 1,663 girl students, including 55 gold medalist and 26 PhD scholars.

He said universities are primarily tasked with fashioning a culture of research and innovation and they must focus on character building of the youth.

He advised the students to embrace themselves with qualities of honesty, integrity, faith, hard work and good character as it would play a key role in achieving progress and development in every field of life.

WUM Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Kalsoom Pracha said there is no shortcut to success and students always need the best institutions to secure their future.

She said the WUM has now become a hub of scientific, technical, business and humanities education in the region, preparing students for future challenges.

She briefly presented a university progress report highlighting main features of research and development.

She said 11 research journals were recognised in the Y category and HEC-funded 21 projects and 38 projects were completed from their own resources. Out of these 60 projects, 58 have been completed and two are in progress.

Earlier, the governor laid the foundation stone of digital hub worth Rs1.5 billion in WUM.Mr Rehman said the project would provide an opportunity to the students of south Punjab to be able to get education with the help of modern equipment regarding digital media technologies.

He said the project would have far-reaching benefits for the youth.\
