Hospitals still receiving dengue cases despite cold weather

RAWALPINDI: Though winter season has started, there is no let-up from dengue cases.

The district administration has provided all facilities to the health authority and cooperation of all departments is also available, but the teams of the health authority, which works directly under Punjab Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department, have not performed properly to achieve the desired results.

Three dengue patients arrived in the government hospitals on Tuesday, taking the season’s tally to 2640.

According to official figures, 31 dengue patients are admitted in the hospitals. So far this year, 2640 patients have been reported in the district.

A senior official of the health authority told Dawn that Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) and Chaklala Cantonment Board (CCB) were responsible for the delay in the elimination of dengue larvae. He said most of the dengue cases had been reported from the cantonment areas.

He said the cantonment administrations did not pay attention on the dengue spray on time.

“Cantonment General Hospital failed to make arrangements for treating dengue patients and, as a result, all dengue patients from cantonment areas landed in Holy Family Hospital, Benazir Bhutto Hospital and District Headquarters hospital,” he said.
