Man picks out suspects before magistrate in Orangi robbery case

KARACHI: A trader, whose house in Orangi Town was looted allegedly by a raiding team comprising several police officials and private persons, rightly picked out three men as those who had raided his residence during an identification parade before a judicial magistrate on Wednesday.

Judicial Magistrate (west) Muhammad Bilal conducted the identification parade after completing legal formalities.

Suspects Izhar Ahmed, Syed Sohail Ali Rizvi and Kamran Shah Rukh — said to be civilians who accompanied the raiding team — were lined up among the dummies and when the complainant, Shakir Khan, called to identify those responsible for the raid-cum-robbery he rightly picked out the trio and assigned their roles in the commissioning of the offence.

Meanwhile, the same court remanded two other suspects — Irshad Ullah and Adil Khan — in judicial custody till Dec 20. DSP Umair Tariq Bajari, said to be the prime suspect in the case, was already in prison on judicial remand.

The DSP, his two gunmen, Constable Khurram Ali and Constable Farhan Ali, and several other policemen and private persons have been booked and arrested for raiding the house of trader Shakir Khan in Orangi Town on the night between Nov 18 and 19 and looting over Rs20 million, jewellery and other valuables.

Remand extended in mall fire case

A magistrate extended the police remand of five suspects in a case pertaining to a fire at a shopping mall on Rashid Minhas Road that claimed 11 lives.

The investigating officer brought Imran and Adnan, said to be the owners of a software firm housed, administrators of mall Sultan and Faizan and security in-charge Abid Shah before Judicial Magistrate(east) Rashid Ali Ujjan and sought extension in their custody for further questioning.

The prosecutor informed the court that letters had been dispatched to various organisations, including the Sindh Building Control Authority, Fire Brigade and Cantonment Board Faisal for further investigation.

The court fixed Dec 9 as the next date of hearing.
