DADU, Feb 20: The Dadu district council has passed a unanimous resolution against publication of blasphemous cartoons and demanded from the government to sever relations with European countries where the cartoons had been published.

The council session was held at the district council hall on Monday and presided over by district naib nazim Syed Mohammad Shah.

A member of the council, Riaz Gadhi, moved a resolution against the publication which was supported by Ali Mohammad Soomro, Ahmed Ali Solangi, Begum Neelam Abbasi and Ghulam Mohiyuddin.

Later, it was unanimously approved by the council.

District naib nazim assured the members that funds announced by the president and the prime minister would be distributed fairly among various union councils.

Pir Ghulam Mohiyuddin moved a resolution against closure of Dadu sugar mills.

The house unanimously appealed to the Sindh chief minister to order reopening of the sugar mill.

The council also approved a resolution presented by Mujeeb Narejo demanding reopening of the Rabi small canal for both Rabi and Kharif seasons.

LARKANA: Protesting against publication of sacrilegious cartoons, a complete strike was observed in Laloorounk in the Qambar district on Monday.

Dur Mohammad Sehar and Hafiz Ayub Junejo, leaders of the Jamat Ahal-i-Sunnat, led a protest and raised slogans against European countries.

They called for severing ties with the European countries and boycotting their goods.

Various political parties in Larkana, Qambar and Shahdadkot also held protest demonstrations and condemned the incident that had hurt sentiments of Muslims across the globe.

SANGHAR: A strike was observed here on Monday on a call of the Anjuman Tahaffuz-i-Namoos-i-Risalat.

About 2000 people took out a procession which after marching through main thoroughfares of the town reached the press club.

The protesters were carrying banners and placards and raising slogans against Denmark, US and other Western countries. They also torched an effigy of US President George W. Bush.

Speaking on the occasion, Sher Mohammad, Ghaffar Qureshi, Maulvi Sultan, Maulvi Abdul Ghaffar Mengal and others urged people to boycott Danish products.

They said some anti-social elements were taking advantage of the protests and were involved in arson and damage to the public property.

Heavy contingents of police had been deployed on main roads.

The organization also called for a strike on March 3 in the district.

NAWABSHAH: The Jamaat-i-Islami has condemned the government’s action against protesters and arrests of party leaders and workers in Islamabad.

A meeting of the JI Shoora was held here on Monday which was presided over by its acting Ameer Prof Aijaz Alam.

The meeting also condemned the detention of Qazi Hussain Ahmad and other leaders and demanded removal of the interior minister.

MIRPURKHAS: Members of the Mirpurkhas District Council took out a procession from the district nazim office which marched through main roads of the town.

Led by Nawab Younus Talpur and Mir Nasrullah Talpur, they raised slogans against the US, European countries and the Pakistani government.

They also condemned the arrest of protesters in Islamabad.

JACOBABAD: Members of the Rice Mills Labour Union took out a procession in the district.

The procession started from the wheat market and after marching through different roads reached the press club where the participants staged a sit-in for one hour.
