Palestinian PM office clarifies and denies points published in Bloomberg

The Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh’s office clarified and refuted certain points published yesterday in his interview with Bloomberg, Palestinian news agency Wafa reports.

In response to a question about the goal of the American delegation’s visit, he said that the discussion centered on the two-state solution and the practical steps to achieve it. He did not say that the Palestinian National Authority and the US administration were discussing “a plan to manage Gaza.”

Regarding the role of the Palestinian Authority in Gaza, he said: “We have not left it, and the Palestinian Authority has continued to provide services to our people in the Gaza Strip, and that Israel must not be allowed to reoccupy Gaza or annex part of it under the so-called buffer zones.”

He said: “Gaza is an integral part of the Palestinian territories, and when there is talk of a two-state solution, this means Gaza, the West Bank, and Jerusalem, and we will not return to Gaza on the back of an Israeli tank.”

He said, “The Palestinian Authority cannot do the reconstruction of Gaza alone. It needs an international collective effort.” He did not mention anything about asking Qatar to transfer money from Hamas to the Palestinian Authority.
