340 students get degrees at Sarhad university convocation

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Haji Ghulam Ali on Monday awarded degrees to 340 students at the 16th convocation of the Sarhad University of Science and Information Technology, according to a statement issued here.

Those getting degrees included seven PhDs. A total of 68 students were awarded gold medals for their outstanding performance.

On the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Prof Salim-ur-Rehman highlighted the achievements of the university since its establishment 22 years ago. He said the varsity had so far established five faculties, 16 departments and three institutes, and the current strength of students was 5,000, whereas the number of graduated students stood at 30,000.

He said last year, the university had launched nursing and allied health sciences programmes, which had gained much popularity. He said it would go a long way in producing qualified health professionals in the country.

He said all the programmes were duly accredited and recognised by Pakistan Engineering Council, Pharmacy Council of Pakistan, Pakistan Nursing Council and National Technology Council.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor Ghulam Ali appreciated the achievements of the university. He also congratulated the recipients of gold medals.
