UN General Assembly to vote over two amendments to Gaza ceasefire resolution

The UN General Assembly is scheduled to meet today to discuss an “immediate humanitarian ceasefire”, Al Jazeera reports.

Ahead of the vote, the countries will vote on two amendments to the resolution:

  • A resolution put forward by the US calling to add that members“unequivocally reject and condemn the heinous terrorist attacks byHamas that took place in Israel starting 7 October 2023 and thetaking of hostages”.

  • Austria’s amendment (added in bold) which “demands the immediate andunconditional release of all hostages [ADD: held by Hamas and othergroups], as well as ensuring [ADD: immediate] humanitarian access”.
