Police failure to free kidnapped woman, child sparks protest

SUKKUR: Participants in a march that began from Kashmore a day before to protest against police’s failure to recover a woman and her young daughter abducted 10 months ago reached Kandhkot on Wednesday after covering 50 kilometres on foot.

The marchers were welcomed by a large number of men, women, children and leaders of different political and nationalist parties, social and right representatives, who also joined the protest that was organised by Awami Workers Party.

District police had not been able to recover the hostages, Nazia Bibi Khoso and her two-year-old daughter Kausar Khoso from the clutches of the kidnappers.

AWP leaders said that almost 10 months ago, some armed persons in broad daylight had kidnapped Nazia Bibi and her two-year-old daughter from a section of Kher Shah Road in Kandhkot and took them to the riverine areas without any fear of police.

They added that police’s failure to recover the hostages had not only exposed their helplessness and fragile writ of the state, but also had strengthened the feudal system. They demanded that the hostages should be rescued immediately, otherwise they would stage a demonstration in front of the SSP Office in Kandhkot.
