MANSEHRA: The King Abdullah Teaching Hospital has ordered 500 doses of anti-rabies vaccine from the National Institute of Health amid high dog bite incidence in parts of the district.

Kath medical superintendent Dr Shahzad Ali Khan told reporters on Friday that the hospital had administered anti-rabies vaccine to 20 people bitten by street dogs in the last couple of weeks.

“We’ve placed an order with the NIH for the urgent delivery of 500 vials of anti-rabies vaccine and even made the payment for 250 vials.

The delivery is expected shortly,” he said.

Dr Shahzad said the hospital had received Rs6 billion worth of high-tech machines, surgical and medical equipment from Saudi authorities.

He said the hospital was set to launch more departments and wards to offer high-quality services available to patients in Peshawar and Islamabad.

The MS said the nephrology department would be made operational soon after the arrival of high-tech dialysis machines received from Saudi Arabia.

“We’ll soon become the first health facility in the upper parts of Hazara division to offer renal dialysis,” he said.

Dr Shahzad said the wards had modern beds that were provided by the Saudi government.

PROTEST: A family blocked the Karakoram Highway here on Friday to protest the murder of one of its members in Dub area.

It insisted that gunmen injured Mohammad Bilal Tanoli and his friend Qaiser Shah by attacking a vehicle they rode on the KKH.

The injured were shifted to the King Abdullah Teaching Hospital, where doctors declared Tanoli dead and admitted Shah.

The body was handed over to the family after completing medico-legal formalities.

The police insisted that an old enmity led to the gun attack.

The deceased’s family members blocked the KKH by placing the body on it and demanded the immediate arrest of Mohammad Tipu and other gunmen.

The protesters dispersed peacefully giving a 24 hours ultimatum to the police to arrest killers.

The police began a search for the gunmen after registering an FIR.

Meanwhile, the residents of Dana Hawa Gali in Oghi tehsil have complained about the suspension of water supply to them after the recent theft of pipelines.

The Dana Hawa Gali water scheme was executed by the public health engineering department almost a decade ago from the government’s development funds allocated to the local MPA, according to the people. They said over 50 water pipes were stolen four days ago.

The people demanded of the public health engineering department to make arrangements for the immediate restoration of water supply.
