FJMU launches country’s first AI gynaecology portal

LAHORE: The Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU) has established Pakistan’s first artificial intelligence (AI) gynaecology portal at the Fatima Jinnah Institute of Mother and Child.

The facility was inaugurated by Punjab Caretaker Health Minister Prof Dr Javed Akram on Monday.

On the occasion, FJMU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Masood Gondal, Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Kamran Khalid Khawaja and Prof Dr Bilqis Shabbir briefed the attendees about the game-changing technology being introduced at the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital.

Addressing the ceremony, Prof Gondal said the AI portal at the Fatima Jinnah Institute of Mother and Child will prove to be a game-changer.

“In the field of obstetrics and gynecology, artificial intelligence has the potential to revolutionise healthcare delivery, improve patient outcomes, and transform the way medical professionals provide care”, he said.

He said that AI can enhance the expertise of obstetrician-gynecologists (ob-gyns), leading to more accurate diagnoses and personalised treatment plans.

Prof Gondal said the field of gynecological oncology is also being improved at the institute.

“We are also going to start an MS programme in uro-gynaecology and other departments in 2024”, the FJMU VC said. Currently, he said, 95pc of the construction work of the Fatima Jinnah Institute Mother and Child has been completed.

On the occasion, the minister announced to make FJMU, Fatima Jinnah Institute of Mother and Child and Sir Gangaram Hospital paper free.

He said Pakistan’s first AI gynaecology portal would prove very beneficial in the treatment of patients, adding that AI has a very important role in the field of radiology. In future, a doctor will be incomplete without AI, he said.

“We are also going to start a two-year level-four programme at the Fatima Jinnah Institute of Mother and Child,” he said.

The department of health informatics is being built at the FJMU, he said, adding the faculty services will be obtained for it from the Punjab Information Technology Board.
