21 cases filed against Omar Ayub, court told

LAHORE: The Punjab police on Thursday told the Lahore High Court that as many as 21 cases were registered against PTI secretary general Omar Ayub Khan in different cities of the province.

A report filed by the inspector general of police revealed that 13 cases were registered in Rawalpindi, four in Lahore, three in Attock and once in Gujranwala.

A law officer filed the police report during the hearing of a petition by the PTI leader seeking details of cases registered against him.

The petitioner’s counsel pointed out that a police report previously submitted to the court claimed that only five cases were registered against his client. He said the police may register more cases against the petitioner.

The counsel asked the court to seek an affidavit from the IGP so that he could not change his stance in future.

Justice Ali Baqar Najafi directed the law officer to submit a fresh report on Friday (today).

Separately, the judge disposed of a petition of former MNA Shaukat Ali Bhatti after the government submitted details of cases against him.

A report filed by the government’s law officer stated that the petitioner faced two cases by police and one by the anti-corruption establishment.

Justice Najafi allowed an opportunity to the law office to submit a report about cases registered against former federal minister Hammad Azhar.
