Drug sale on the rise in Nawabshah

NAWABSHAH, Feb 2: Drugs are being sold openly throughout Nawabshah in connivance with the excise and police of the district.

A survey revealed that drugs like opium, heroin, charas, and cannabis are being openly sold in Sakrand, Daulatpur, Qazi Ahmed, Daur, Bandhi, and Nawabshah. They are also being supplied to the neighbouring districts including Naushahro Feroze and Sanghar.

In Sakrand, these drugs were being sold in various localities with its main hub being Daleldero, which lies between Nawabshah and Sakrand.

Many raids were conducted by the excise and district police earlier also but it did not deter the drug peddlers. In fact, they offered strong resistance to the former.

An official of the excise department, who requested anonymity, told this correspondent that the reasons why drug trafficking could not be curbed was first of all a ‘monthly’ was being collected by the department and secondly whenever a raid was conducted it failed due to the shortage of staff.

He said that between 20 and 25 constables were posted at Sakrand which was not enough.

The SSP, Nawabshah, Khamiso Khan Memon, said that he would take strict action against the officials involved “in this dirty game”.

He said that a massive operation would be initiated soon against the drug pushers.

The excise and taxation officer, Abdul Fateh Bhutto, said that he would look into the matter and launch an operation against the drug peddlers throughout the district.

TREE PLANTATION: The people will be provided healthy, exotic and indigenous indoor and outdoor plants at low prices by establishing a modern nursery for ornamental plants.

This was stated by district Nazim Faryal Talpur while presiding over a meeting of the District Forest Department.
