Angry mobs lynch two more ‘robbers’ in city

KARACHI: Two more suspected robbers were lynched and another critically injured in two separate incidents in Orangi Town and Korangi on Sunday evening, police and rescue services said.

In Korangi, the police said two robbers snatched cell phones and other valuables from some passers-by near Ghaus Park within the remit of the Zaman Town police station. However, area people chased them and managed to overpower the two suspects and subjected them to a severe beating.

An Edhi Foundation spokesperson said that the injured suspects were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), where doctors declared one of them dead.

The dead and injured were in their 30s.

Area SHO Rao Rafiq said the three snatched cell phones, a purse, motorbike and pistols were recovered from them.

Later in the evening, two suspected robbers were looting citizens when enraged people gathered there and got hold of one of them in Orangi Town No 10.

His accomplice managed to flee on his motorbike. The mob gave him a violent beating. He was first taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital from where he was shifted to the JPMC, where he died during treatment.

Mominabad SHO Ansar Butt said that the identity of the deceased could not be ascertained till late in the night.

Police stop mob from lynching two suspects

Police on Sunday claimed to have saved two suspected robbers after they were caught by enraged people who wanted to lynch them for wounding a shopkeeper during a robbery in Orangi Town on Sunday.

Pakistan Bazaar SHO Shakeel Rind said four robbers riding two motorbikes arrived at a junk dealer’s shop at Bismillah Chowk in Sector-16. They snatched cash and other valuables from the junk dealer, Mohammed Asif, 35, and shot him when he put up resistance.

As they were fleeing, a police patrol reached the spot and in the meantime, a mob also chased them. He said two suspects escaped while as many were caught. The officer said the mob was bent on lynching them, but the police saved them.

The held suspects were identified as Amir and Arman.
