Attacks on police installations foiled in Lakki Marwat

LAKKI MARWAT: The police foiled militant attacks on two installations in Gandi Khankhel and Darra Pezu areas here on the night between Monday and Tuesday.

A police official said the attacks were simultaneously launched on a police post in Gandi and Shaheed Haibat Ali Khan police station in Pezu area.

He said the personnel deployed at the post located along Bannu-DI Khan Road near Gandi Chowk and at the police station in Darra Pezu town were fully alert and they responded promptly.

The assailants used light and heavy weapons in a bid to take over the police installations but the attacks were repulsed, he claimed.

The official said that the police personnel were equipped with modern light and heavy weapons to counter militant attacks effectively.

Later on Tuesday morning, DPO Tariq Habib visited the Gandi police post and met police jawans and appreciated their display of gallantry.

Meanwhile, Bannu police arrested two suspects during a raid on Tuesday after a video showing them torturing a citizen went viral on the social media.

A police official said that police learnt about the torture of a citizen, Fayazur Rehman, a resident of Sparka Wazir area, by three alleged drug barons when a video of the incident was uploaded on the social media.

In the video clip the suspects could be seen severely torturing the citizen besides hurling threats of dire consequence on him, he maintained.

The official said that a party of township police station headed by DSP Imran Khattak and SHO Gul Mohammad arrested two of them identified as Wahid and Rehmatullah during a raid.

Police also seized 5.8kg hashish, 1.4kg ice drug, a bottle of liquor, two hand grenades, an AK-47 assault rifle, a baton used for torturing the citizen and the mobile phone used for recording the video from the arrested men, he added.

The official said that efforts were underway to capture Abdullah, the third accomplice of the arrested suspects.
